Rachel Yasmin Hurst (YAZMIN SOUL ) was born August 5th, at Laguardia Hospital in Queens, New York, to Barbara Hurst (Associate Staff Analyst for the City of New York) and Albert Hurst (Army & Navy Veteran). Rachel, the youngest of 5 siblings, grew to be very fond of music from listening to her fathers stories of how he was once a singer and how he reached his ultimate dream (He performed with the drifters in the late 60s) for Yazmin growing up with four very different siblings opened her up to many other great genres and artist. She knew at a young age that singing was her calling but it wasn’t til she heard Whitney Houston singing ”The Greatest Love” that she understood what it meant to have a gift that touches a persons soul. Inspired by these and other experiences Rachel learned to appreciate and respect all genres of music. Passionate and determined she is now pursuing a career in the music industry as a vocalist. she is not only a solo artist she also makes up one half of the duo called 'Tru People" (they have a very eclectic sound and harmony that is reminiscent of a lot of great singers from the 50s/60s era with a new age twist, their sound is fresh and new) To date she has performed with numerous local artist through out Virginia, North Carolina and New York, she has won open mic contest all over Virginia and New York, she has also done a few shows in Baltimore, she has performed at the good music festival in hampton Virginia, A'fram Fest 2008 festival ,the Soul fest in Virginia beach virginia, harbor fest inHampton Virginia, the Virginia walkathon in 2008, The Flyin Fishbone 2009-2010, Desmond’s tavern,with the soul rebels band in New York city 2010, she had a part in an off broadway play titled “What About Your Friends” 2011,opened up for Little Mo at Mangos in Norfolk Virginia 2011, "Who’s Got Next" event at a well known venue called "The House" in Norfolk Virginia 2011, she was a guest performer at Showmann's a well known venue in Harlem New York AND RECENTLY WAS FEATURED ON DONNY KLANG'S (FROM MTB3-4) DJ'S WEBSITE (WWW.DJSWIVET.COM/YAZMINSOUL) Her soulful style and approachable manner has earned her a following in New York and Virginia. Rachel is currently working on making a name for herself not only locally but world wide, she is truly a star in her own right.
